Motorcycle Brake Fluid

What kind of brake fluid should I use?

Refer to your service manual as to what kind of fluid is recommended. Majority of motorcycles will use DOT 3 or DOT 4. The reservoir cap on master cylinder should also state the type of fluid that can be used.

Is automotive and motorcycle brake fluid the same?

Yes. You can use automotive brake fluid in a motorcycle. If you want to pay more for a smaller bottle, be my guest.

What brand of fluid should I use?

I use Napa Heavy Duty (HD) Dot 4 fluid for all street & dirt bikes. It has the highest wet & dry boiling points that can be found at any of the local auto parts stores for a reasonable price.

How often should I change my fluid?

Most manufactures recommend bleeding/flushing the fluid every 2 years. Refer to your service manual for maintenance interval.
